Mainescape
Mainescape was founded in 1977 as a landscape design and build company rooted in the Blue Hill Peninsula. Over time, it grew into a garden center and greenhouse — becoming a place where people come not just for plants, but to spend time and feel connected to the space around them. Through the years, Mainescape has taken on many forms: a garden shop, a source for local produce and baked goods, a gathering place for markets, events, and everyday moments.
Today, Mainescape is owned and operated by Spencer Janney, a Maine small business owner focused on creating spaces that bring people together around shared experience. He is the founder of Naiad Country Brewery in Orland, where a similar focus on craft, place, and community shapes the work.
Mainescape is continuing to evolve with that perspective and integration in mind: building on what’s here while shaping something new that feels grounded and alive.
We care about thoughtful growing, well-made, local things, and creating spaces that people want to return to. Whether you’re here for plants, food, or simply to walk through the greenhouse, Mainescape is meant to be experienced — never rushed.

“One of the most important resources that a garden makes available for use, is the gardener's own body. A garden gives the body the dignity of working in its own support. It is a way of rejoining the human race.”
― Wendell Berry
